Fidget spinner art

A couple of weeks ago Te Ngahere and The Manga did some Fidget spinner art, we were learning to use dye, space and crayon. We drew it on an A3 piece of paper, so it was hard to use up all of the space.  We used cups and bowls to draw our bearings and the shape. I think I did really well in my art and I hope that we can do some more art again!!!

Making vanilla Ice cream

Last week on Friday morning Te Ngahere made some delicious vanilla ice cream, we added in a variety of measurements towards the ingredients. The cause of this was because we achieved 100% in our learning plans.

We had to write a recount based around us making yummy vanilla ice cream I was learning to use metaphors, apostrophes and the correct structure for a recount!!!! To make our ice cream we had to work in pairs, Major and I worked together. In the end our Ice cream tasted so dreamy (but also very salty) We all had a great time making it and we hope to do it again!!!

Are Innovative Learning Environments better for teaching and learning?

Are Innovative Learning Environments better for teaching and learning?

Are innovative learning environments better for teaching and Learning? I say yes because have you ever heard of digitally learning, or collaborating from two classrooms, or even choosing whatever you want to learn and then just going to that workshop? What about a learning plan where you set your own day?  We also have furniture to learn on which makes us relaxed and feel comfortable while we learn. I bet you haven’t but this is the way we learn.

We learn in a way that nobody else does. We don’t learn with pens and paper or pencils and books, but we do learn digitally. ChromeBooks and laptops are what we use to learn. The main reason why I actually love using chromebooks is because did you know that three billion to six billion trees are getting cut down each year just for paper to be made so that we can write and draw. Yes that is a lot. So using chromebooks not only saves paper but saves trees. Learning plans are another cool thing because you are setting out your own day with whatever you know you need to learn.

Also in Te Ngahere we are two classes  joined together by a hole in between the classrooms which means double the students and double the teachers. This is good because having more students means we can all learn from each other in all kinds of different ways, making our learning more collaborative. Having three teachers is way better than having one, why, because if one teacher is busy talking with someone else or working with people then we can easily just walk across the classroom to get to the other teacher and tell them what you need. One of the best things in our classrooms is being able to choose whatever we want to learn and if we want or need to learn it then we go to that workshop.

So choosing what workshop we want to go to lets us know if we are improving or not. Every time I go to a workshop I know that I am improving because each time I’m understanding it more and more. But if we were in groups like how normal schools are we wouldn’t know what we need to learn or know if we are improving.

I love learning the way Te Ngahere learns because it’s different and easier. We’re always comfortable, we know what we need to learn and if we're improving or not. We are saving trees by learning digitally but best of all were learning in a better and fun environment.
