For the past few weeks in Te Ngahere we have been writing persuasive pieces. We were learning to use the correct structure for a persuasive text. My persuasive text is about whether plastic bags should be used in supermarkets. I hope you enjoy it.

Should Plastic Bags Bags Be Used In Supermarkets?
Plastic bags are destroying our country, in fact not just our country but countries all around the world! Plastic bags are becoming a big problem, but what can we do to solve? It all starts off by banning plastic bags from supermarkets. Here’s why…
Biodegradable and Photodegradable, both really big words but both really small meanings! Plastic bags are photodegradable this means they are only able to breakdown from lots and lots of sunlight, this process takes around 500 years. That’s longer than the lifespan of an average human being. But if plastic bags were biodegradable like cardboard or paper then they would be able to break down naturally and once you're finished using it you can put it in your garden to break down.
Plastic bags are killing around 100, 000 sea animals each year. Around 8-13 million tons of plastic is being dumped in the ocean by us, as you know we are a big problem. Every year if plastic bags keeps on killing our animals by the year 2040 230,0000 animals would have died from plastic and plastic bags!!!
Our country is a Green Clean Country!!! Well for now it is. Our country is one of the most popular countries in the world because of how clean we are. If rubbish keeps on increasing our population of being clean will be zero. This would be very bad because tourist will think different about our country which is not what we want people to think of us!
In conclusion, plastic bags should be banned from supermarkets. My reasons have proven that plastic bags are bad for the environment, country and animals. If you want to help with this solution say NO to plastic bags!!!
